The futures-e consortium appreciates your active participation at our final conference in Brussels on 25 November 2008!
Renewable electricity has a key role to play in meeting the challenging objectives set in Europe’s Energy Policy. The futures-e project has been supported by the Community's Intelligent Energy – Europe Programme to mobilise and engage a wide range of expertise and inputs to the development of future European policies in this field.
Several European stakeholders in the field of energy policy, such as public administrations from the EU Member States, as well as representatives from the private sector, have attended this futures-e event and contributed to the debate on the future of support mechanisms for this important sector.
The morning of the conference focused on the status quo of renewable electricity support in Europe (and at global scale). What is the current market status? How effective and efficient are the current national support schemes in place? Which trade-offs exist with other markets, policies and sectors? In addition there will be a focus on Central and Eastern Europe - which peculiarities exist and how can present deficits be overcome in the future?
The afternoon session discussed the way forward towards a possible harmonisation or coordination of EU renewable electricity policy. The proposed RES directive was introduced and options for coordination / harmonisation have been discussed. What options are there? What are feasible consequences of those harmonisation or coordination options, especially from a national viewpoint?
Throughout the day we had several fruitful discussion and debates on these issues and the chance to share experiences. To explore the agenda please >>click here<<

A series of six regional workshops were held in February to October 2008 to debate the options for and desire towards harmonisation or coordination of European renewable electricity policies, and the implications of the proposed Renewable Energy Directive. Thereby, the London workshop explored some specific options for coordination of offshore wind promotion in the North Sea region, whilst in the Rome workshop a topical focus was put on solar power. The futures-e consortium gratefully acknowledges the active involvment of all participants which contribute to interesting lively debates.
The dates, location and geographical (regional) coverage of the individual workshops are listed below. Thereby, for each event details and presentations are applicable.

On 20 June 2007 the workshop on “ Harmonisation and Coordination of European Renewable Electricity support mechanisms ” in the centre of Brussels at Fédération des Entreprises de Belgique / Verbond van Belgische Ondernemingen. We – the futures-e team – gratefully acknowledge the active participation of all attendees in this event.
Representatives from several European Member States and the European Commission took the opportunity to lively discuss the opportunities for supporting renewable electricity within the European Union in the future. This event, thankfully hosted by Intelligent Energy Europe, was intended to form part of the consultation process for the preparation of the Commission Communication on renewable electricity support schemes as published in January 2008.
